Sometimes, it feels like no matter what we do, true happiness remains just out of reach. We strive for it, we chase it, but it seems to always be one step ahead.

You’re not alone. Many of us feel this way. But here’s a secret – happiness might be closer than you think.

Today, I’m going to share with you seven things you can start doing every morning that could make you a happier person.

Some might surprise you.

1) Start with gratitude

Let me share with you a personal story. I used to wake up every morning and the first thing I’d do is check my emails. Big mistake. It set the tone for the day – stress, urgency, always playing catch-up.

Then, I made a change. Now, the first thing I do when I wake up is take a moment to express gratitude. I think about three specific things I’m grateful for that day. And it’s made all the difference.

Why? Because it starts my day on a positive note. It sets my focus on what’s good in my life, not what’s urgent or frustrating. Believe me, it’s a simple change but its impact is profound.

2) Get moving

Okay, this is where you might roll your eyes at me. Yes, I’m going to suggest exercise. But hear me out.

I was never a morning exercise person. The thought of doing anything more strenuous than lifting a coffee mug before 10AM seemed like torture. But then I read about the power of starting your day with movement – not necessarily a full-blown workout, but just some kind of physical activity.

So, I gave it a shot. And honestly? It’s been a game-changer. Now, my mornings kick off with a brisk walk around the block or some light yoga, and it makes me feel energized and ready to tackle whatever comes my way.

Give it a try. You might surprise yourself like I did.

3) Hydrate immediately

When you sleep, your body goes hours without water, leading to mild dehydration by the time you wake up. This is one of the reasons why you might feel groggy in the morning.

By drinking a glass of water first thing when you wake up, you’re helping your body to rehydrate, kickstart your metabolism, and flush out toxins. The result? You’re more alert and ready to start your day.

4) Make your bed

It’s a simple act, really. Pulling up the sheets, smoothing out the comforter, fluffing the pillows. But this small task, completed first thing in the morning, gives you a sense of accomplishment.

It’s a nod to yourself that you’re ready to take on the day and whatever it may bring. Plus, there’s something incredibly satisfying about coming home to a neatly made bed after a long day. It’s a small act of kindness that your future self will thank you for.

5) Find a moment of stillness

This is one that took me a while to get on board with. I always thought I was too busy to just sit and do nothing. But, let me tell you, this has been a revelation.

I now dedicate five minutes each morning to just be still. Sometimes I meditate. Sometimes I simply sit quietly with a cup of tea and look out the window. It’s not about what I do, it’s about taking a moment for myself before the chaos of the day begins.

These five minutes of stillness help me clear my head and set my intentions for the day. It’s like hitting a reset button every morning. Trust me, if you give it a shot, it can make a world of difference in your day.

6) Eat a healthy breakfast

We’ve all heard it before – breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And it’s true. Eating a nutritious breakfast can set the tone for the rest of your day. It can boost your energy levels and prevent you from overeating later in the day.

I’m not saying you need to prepare a gourmet meal every morning. Even something as simple as a bowl of oatmeal with some berries or a smoothie can do wonders for your mood and energy levels.

6) Plan your day

There’s something comforting about knowing what lies ahead. Each morning, take a few minutes to jot down what you need to accomplish that day. It doesn’t have to be an exhaustive list, just the key tasks.

This small act of planning will give you a sense of control and direction. It also helps in reducing stress as you won’t be constantly trying to remember what you need to do next.

7) Do something you love

This one’s my favorite. Start your day doing something that brings you joy. For me, it’s reading a chapter of a book or listening to my favorite podcast. For others, it might be painting, gardening, or playing with their pet.

Starting your day with something you love can boost your mood and set a positive tone for the rest of the day. It’s like giving yourself a mini gift every morning.

Happiness starts with habits

As we wrap up our journey through these seven morning habits for fostering happiness, let’s remember: even the smallest changes can ignite remarkable transformations in our lives. By weaving these practices into our daily rituals, we wield the power to shape our outlook and infuse each day with positivity.

Each morning heralds a fresh chance to prioritize self-care, gratitude, and mindfulness, paving the way for a richer, more satisfying existence. So, let’s seize the opportunity for growth and renewal that dawns with each sunrise, and dedicate ourselves to nurturing our happiness with every step.

With intention and purpose, we unlock the boundless joy and fulfillment that await us each day.
