Blog Editorial Policy

The Expert Editor publishes editorial content alongside our professional editing services. This page describes the editorial standards that apply to our blog and editorial articles, separate from our editing-services standards which are described on our Quality Assurance page.

What we cover

Our editorial content covers writing craft, editing best practices, language and style, publishing trends, and topics relevant to writers — alongside broader pieces on personal development, psychology, and the lived experience of writing. We write for working writers, students, and curious readers.

Our editorial standards

Sourcing. Claims are traceable to a source. We prefer primary research, established publications, and reputable institutions. When we reference a study, we link to it.

Editorial review. Articles are reviewed before publication for accuracy, clarity, and source attribution. Sensitive topics receive additional scrutiny.

Corrections. Errors are corrected promptly and noted on the article.

Editorial independence. Editorial decisions are made independently of our editing-services business and any commercial relationships. Articles do not exist to sell our services; they exist because they are useful to read.

Use of AI tools

We use AI tools as part of our publishing workflow. AI assists with research, source discovery, drafting, fact-checking support, and post-publication quality audits including broken-link scans and source verification.

Human editors review, fact-check, and approve all content prior to publication. The editors responsible for this work, along with their backgrounds, are listed on our Editors page.

AI does not make editorial decisions — it does not choose what we cover, what angle a story takes, or what gets published. Those decisions are made by our editors, and editorial responsibility for accuracy rests with The Expert Editor.

We do not use AI to fabricate quotes, invent sources, or present AI-generated content as first-hand reporting from real individuals.

Note: this AI policy applies only to our editorial blog content. Our professional editing services are performed by human editors with relevant qualifications, as described on our editors page.

Contributors and pen names

Some articles on our editorial blog are published under contributor pen names. Pen names represent real members of our editorial team or freelance contributors writing under chosen names. Where a pen name is in use, articles published under it are produced by our editorial team and editorial responsibility for them rests with The Expert Editor.

Network editorial standards

The Expert Editor’s editorial blog is published by Brown Brothers Media. Our standards are part of a broader editorial framework that applies across the Brown Brothers Media network of publications.

As part of adopting this framework, we have reviewed older content on the site and, where it did not reflect our current standards, updated or retired it. We have also updated how authorship is presented and disclosed AI tools used in our workflow.

See the Brown Brothers Media editorial framework for the full picture. For questions, contact editorial@brownbrothers.io.
