Chief Editor & Founder
Brendan Brown founded The Expert Editor in Melbourne in 2012 and has overseen the editing of thousands of theses, manuscripts, and business documents since. A writer before he was an editor — he holds a Bachelor of Laws from Deakin University — he started the company after seeing how few accessible, professional editing services existed for academics and authors in Australia.
At The Expert Editor, Brendan hires the professional editors who work directly with clients, sets the editorial standards that apply to both client work and this site’s editorial blog, and reviews articles before they are published. He writes occasionally on the editor’s view of writing — the patterns experienced editors notice in working drafts, and the small habits that separate writers who finish from those who don’t.
Brendan is a co-founder of Brown Brothers Media, the publishing company that operates The Expert Editor alongside several other editorial publications, including our sister site Global English Editing.
Graeme Brown
Editor
Graeme Brown spent his career in Australian education — first as a high-school mathematics teacher, then as an assistant principal — before turning to editing. In 2014 he co-founded Global English Editing, our sister publication, with his son Brendan, and brings a teacher’s precision to questions of language, clarity, and craft.
On The Expert Editor’s editorial blog, Graeme’s focus is the patterns and habits of writing that hold up over a long career — the slow craft of revision, what older writers know about finishing, and what decades of wide reading quietly teach you about how language works. He shares oversight of the editorial standards on this site and reviews articles before publication.

The Expert Editor operates as both an editing service and an editorial publication. Our client work — thesis, manuscript, and business editing — is handled by a team of qualified professional editors, described on our Editors page. The editors named above set the standards for what we publish on this site and review every article before it goes live.
Articles carrying a named byline were written by that person, who approved publication under their name; most are by the two editors named above. On older articles from our archive, a named byline identifies the original author, and an editor’s note at the top of the article records when it was revised and by whom. Articles published under The Expert Editor Editorial Team byline were produced through our collective process — source verification, drafting, editing and review — and make no claim to personal experience or credentials. AI tools assist with research and drafting across both; every article is reviewed and approved by one of the two editors named above before publication, in line with our Editorial Standards.
